April 2018

(To see our previous posts, view the links in "Behind Us")

04-30-18 Traveled today to Frankfort, Kentucky. It was fairly uneventful, except we forgot to raise the rear stabilizers when we pulled out of our campsite this morning. We bent one pretty well, but we were able to raise it enough to drive with about 10 inches of clearance. We will get it fixed in Colorado. Ooopps!

04-28-18 Today we visited the Richie County Humane Society in Harrisville, WV. This is where Riddlie came from. Heather Cunningham fostered Riddlie through a litter of puppies who were successfully placed in good homes and then Heather chose us to be Riddlie's forever family. She is such a terrific dog! Heather gave us a tour of the facility which is the cleanest shelter I have ever seen! It is very well-run on very little money with the help of many volunteers. Heather donates an amazing amount of hours there. The dogs are happy and healthy, and have nice kennels and a beautiful yard to run in. Heather's mother, Judy Watson, was the director of the facility until recently. Here is a picture of Heather, Judy and Riddlie. Thank you Heather!

04-27-18 Heather Cunningham, Riddlie's foster-mom, came to visit! Riddlie recognized her and cuddled right up. Today we are going to Ritche County Humane Society for a tour and maybe help out a little. Here are Riddlie and Heather.

04-26-18 We arrived at Western Village RV Park in Carlisle PA today at about about 5:00 p.m. We had a nice breakfast with Dad at M&M's restaurant and were on the road at 10:15. We leave for West Virginia tomorrow morning and plan to be there around 3:00 p.m. We can't wait to see Riddlie's foster-mom, Heather!

04-22-18 We are getting ready to leave for Colorado. Most of our errands are complete, purchases made, etc. Craigslist came through for us. The convertable couch sold quickly and we are waiting today for someone to come and buy the two bench seats.

Longview RV treated us very well. Although they have a terrible reputation for service, they did a great job for us. We dropped the RV off on May 5 for warantee repairs. There was quite a list of things to fix: electric hot water heater, the black water tank flush, the black water tank valve was stuck open, an outside compartment latch didn't work, and several cosmetic things. We aren't very pleased with the quality control at Keystone. Obviously, nothing was tested before it left the manufacturer.

Beaver Camper in Agawam installed a powervent fan for us. We should rarely have to use the air conditioner now unless we are in direct sunlight.

We are anxious to be on our way! Our planned departure date is April 26! We will arrive in Woodland Park, Colorado at Diamond RV Park around May 10.

04-03-18 We are home and having some work done on the camper, doing taxes, etc. We removed the convertable couch and the table benchs. We are waiting for two recliners and two cool kitchen chairs to be delivered today. The couch and benches are for sale on Craigs List. Are there any real customers on Craigs List any more? We are getting multiple scammer-offers (they will send us a cashiers check for the sale price plus an extra amount that has to returned to the buyer for some reason - then the cashiers check bounces several weeks later). So far, no real buyers.

The chairs arrived from Reymore and Flanigans right on time! Here are before and after pictures.

After

We leave for Pikes Peak for our work-camper summer vacation on April 26 and arrive in Colorado around May 10! In exchange for doing office work and campground maintenance we receive a full hookup campsite plus an hourly wage for hours worked. We will be working two days on, four days off, three days on, four days off. This should give us lots of time to look around Colorado. We will be there until the end of September. Stay tuned for updates!
